WHS PGR/ECR Bursary

Women’s History Scotland is pleased to invite applications for one research bursary worth £500 for 2024. The Bursary is open to masters students, doctoral researchers, untenured or precariously-funded early career researchers, and independent historians who are currently undertaking research in women’s and gender history, particularly for those working in Scotland or working on Scottish themes.

An award of up to £500 will be made in this funding call. The WHS Bursary committee will prioritise applications that seek funding towards research costs, broadly construed (e.g., to undertake archival research, to carry out oral history interviews, to cover digitisation costs, to pay for virtual archive use, etc). We will, however, also consider applications to pay for image copyright for first-time monographs and other associated publication costs.

More details on our PGR/ECR Bursary can be found here.

Sue Innes Memorial Lecture, 2021 delivered by Dr Katie Barclay, Thursday 9 December, 2021 9am

Women’s History Scotland were delighted to welcome Dr Katie Barclay as our guest speaker for the 2021 Sue Innes Memorial Lecture. Her lecture brought a history of emotions reading to family history sources with the goal of enriching our understanding of how men and women in nineteenth- century Britain produced and debated the family as an affective and gendered unit.

***Resources for the history of BAME women in Scotland***

We hope schools and researchers will find the resource a good starting point to find out more about BAME women in Scottish history. We are aware that there is likely to be a lot more material than this, whether personal accounts or organisational history, or ongoing research that we don’t know about. This page will be a work-in-progress with resources added as we find out about new work and projects. If you have any suggestions we can add please get in touch info@womenshistoryscotland.org or through Facebook or twitter @WomensHistScot

This online course which two of our committee members led on, and several more contributed to, is still available via Open Learn at the University of Glasgow – find out more below!

At the beginning of March 2021 we organised an online session offering strategies and advice about getting published in women’s and gender history for members of Women’s History Scotland. Please follow the link below to download the presentations.
