Social History Society Annual Conference 2010

The annual conference will take place from 30 March to 1 April 2010, at the University of Glasgow.
The plenary lecture will be given by Professor Frank Mort, and will explore the themes of sexualities and the city in relation to cultural and social history.
The Society's conference has no single theme. It is organised in six strands:
Deviance, Inclusion and Exclusion
Global Markets and Social Orders
Life-cycles and Life-styles
Political Cultures, Policy and Citizenship
Narratives, Emotions and the Self
Spaces and Places

Place, Space and Environment

The Gender in History Group of the University of Southern Denmark invites proposals of papers relating to historical approaches on the theme of ‘Space, Place and Environment’. Proposals should be for papers of twenty minutes, and any aspect of the theme will be considered. Contributions from postgraduates are especially encouraged. The conference language will be English.
Papers may address some of the following themes: City and Country; Domestic and Public Space; Using/abusing the environment; Gendered Spaces; Individual and collective identities; Public history and the use of space (e.g. museums, parks etc.)

Women’s History Scotland exists to promote study and research in gender and women’s history, particularly for those working in Scotland or on Scottish themes. Women’s History Scotland’s annual Spring Workshop will be held at the University of Dundee on 15 March 2008. This workshop will focus on the research being completed by postgraduates and independent researchers and provides a supportive and informal atmosphere in which to present. Knitted Textiles in Scotland

Scotland possesses a rich and vibrant historic and present-day knitting culture ranging from the hand-knitters of Shetland and Fair Isle in the north to that of the border counties. This workshop brings together experts in the history, production and representation of knitting in an interdisciplinary dialogue with a commitment to developing the collaboration between the history of knitted textiles in Scotland and present day curatorial imperatives and creative initiatives.
